How to Pre-Generate Come Back Later Codes For Your Anonymous Survey

With Web Survey Creator it's possible to generate come-back-later codes with a Survey Link for your anonymous survey.

Generating come-back-later codes is only available for Anonymous Distributions. Firstly we must correctly setup our Distribution Methods - you can use the following steps to do this:

1. From the Survey Designer click on Distribution -> Methods
2. Select Edit Distribution Settings by using the icon
3. While in this browse, scroll down until you find the "When Respondents return to the Survey what should they be allowed to do?" heading
4. Here you will want to choose the option “Respondents can leave the survey and return later to complete an uncompleted response” – this will allow survey respondents to return to the survey
5. You will also need to choose the option “Do not allow new "Come-back-Later" Codes to be requested. That is, only existing "Come-back-Later" Codes may be used.” Enabling this option will restrict respondents from generating any codes for the survey.
   

Now that we have these distribution settings correctly setup, we can start generating some recall codes.

Return back to the Distribution -> Methods menu and click on the “Import/Generate Responses” dropdown, here you will find the option "Generate Recall Codes". Note this option will be greyed out/unavailable if you're not using an anonymous distribution.

After clicking on the Generate Recall Codes option, you will then be given some options for your recall code generation. You can choose the Number of Recall codes, the Code Length and any characters you would like to exlude from the generated codes.

Now that we have generated our codes, all we need to do is download them. Navigate to Analysis -> Reports & Exports, here you can simply download your XLS file containing the recall codes and matching Survey Link by clicking on the XLS icon.
